I do not condone the violence, but I do wonder what you think Israel should do in the face of the 10,000 rockets that have been fired at them from Gaza since Oct 2023. If you were the Israeli government, what would you do to protect your nation?

There's no easy answers in this mate, but as I say here, peace has to be built, and when a nation state is oppressing a group of people (it is well documented that Israel have set up an apartheid system, and that Palestinian people have been killed, had their homes stolen, treated as second class citizens by the Israeli state for decades), part of making peace and bringing about security for your people is working towards justice and reconciliation. Israel is in the position of power. Only they have the power to make meaninful steps towards lasting peace.

Would you not think that Hamas also has a role to play in bringing peace? I suggest that peace will never happen if only one side wants it.

Hamas are but a symptom created by the Israeli state's treatment of Palestinian people. Historically and currently there has been Palestinian movements that have non violently protested Israel's oppressive regime, the state has ignored, killed, and imprisoned these people, creating oxygen for movements like hamas to grow. End the occupation, work towards reconciliation, and such movements lose their power

I wish it was that simple. The following quote is from the Hamas constitution:

"Goals of the HAMAS:

On the Destruction of Israel:

-----------------------------

'Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will

obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.' "

This isn't simply a geopolitical movement, it is a fundamental religious one that has the destruction of another nation as its primary reason for existence.

What do you think drives people to extremism? Hamas, nor these ideas, do not exist in a vacuum. They were created from decades of oppressive policy at the hands of Israel.
