Poets Square: Legacy / Trinette Taylor
By the works of my hands I will be known and remembered. What good is it to sit and be swayed by the chilly winds of complacency that blow submission throughout the comfort of my own house?
I am learning to stand. I take comfort in knowing that my feet are nestled in the footprints of the women that came before me. Their war burnt cries echo through this cold house.
I am learning to join hands. I reach out and entwine my fingers with the women who are fighting already. They have fury in their eyes but a softness in their hearts. I am taking their lead and leaving this cold house.
I am learning legacy. A passing of hope to my daughters and to my sons, to her daughters and to her sons, to his daughters and to his sons. The message of freedom will be heralded around the town that we are walking through. That we, the women and men of this age, can learn to love and be loved. That we, the women and men of this age, can serve and be served. That we, the women and men of this age, can hope and offer hope.
By the works of my hands I will be known and remembered. Let me be known as a woman who closed the windows to the chilly air of complacency, and who decided to step out the door instead.
